Poster

Presentation Description

Institution: Sunshine Coast university Hospital - QLD, Australia

In recent years, gamification has emerged as a dynamic and innovative approach to enhance surgical education and training. This comprehensive review explores the multifaceted applications, benefits, and challenges associated with the integration of gamification in surgical education. Gamification leverages game elements such as competition, rewards, and interactive scenarios to engage learners actively. In surgical education, this approach has been applied across various domains, including skill acquisition, knowledge retention, and teamwork development. For instance, simulated surgical games offer a risk-free environment for trainees to practice and refine their technical skills. Additionally, gamified learning platforms can provide continuous assessment and feedback, facilitating personalised learning. The advantages extend beyond skill enhancement, fostering collaborative learning and encouraging teamwork- crucial elements in the surgical field. Notable examples of gamification in medicine include educational games, mobile apps, and virtual scenarios. However, the successful implementation of gamification in surgical education is not without challenges. Designing effective gamified content, aligning it with learning objectives, and integrating it into existing curricula can be complex endeavours. Future directions in this field encompass refining gamification strategies, enhancing realism in simulations, and harnessing emerging technologies like virtual reality and artificial intelligence. In conclusion, gamification holds immense promise in revolutionising surgical education by rendering learning engaging, effective, and learner-centred. As surgical training continues to evolve, gamification stands as a valuable tool shaping the future of surgical education.
