To be able to perform surgery on a patient is already a remarkable feat, but the act of a surgeon performing surgery on themselves is nothing short of extraordinary. Throughout the centuries, numerous surgeons have demonstrated immense courage and a deep understanding of the human anatomy by daring to wield the scalpel upon their own bodies. Whether driven by curiosity or necessity these surgeons have left a profound mark on the history of medicine. This article presents a comprehensive exploration of the instances where surgeons have performed self-surgery, spanning from the 1800s to the present day. Drawing from historical records, medical literature, and contemporary case studies, it provides an account of the motivations, procedures, and outcomes associated with these extraordinary acts of self-intervention.
