Ruba Harfeil
Professional Bio
My name is Ruba Harfeil, a Palestinian Kiwi originally from Jerusalem. In my life’s journey, I ventured from Palestine to New Zealand in 2013 to do my medical training. Happily married and have three young children. My medical career began with service in a Palestinian refugee camp back in Jordan where I did my medical school, where I provided care to those in need. In New Zealand, I spent four years at Waikato Hospital before moving to GP land. Achieved my fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in April 2024. Driven by my dedication to paediatric care, I completed a postgraduate diploma in Paediatrics with Auckland University. I also obtained a certificate in skin cancer surgery. I established the first free-of-charge Marae clinic in rural Kihikihi, offering comprehensive healthcare services including GP, nurse, pharmacist, and diabetes nurse specialist clinics. This clinic garnered a national attention and earned me a feature on the cover page of the NZ Doctors magazine, highlighting my innovative approach to community healthcare, Māori health in particular. I am currently studying towards two post graduate certificates with Auckland University, a certificate in clinical education, and a certificate in child and adolescent mental health.
