06 - 10 May 2024
Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre
Welcome
Tēnā koutou katoa,
It was May 2007, the last time that Ōtautahi Christchurch hosted an Annual Scientific Congress (ASC). Seventeen years later, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) 92nd ASC is being hosted in Ōtautahi Christchurch again from Monday 6 to Friday 10 May 2024; but, this time, in the brand-new Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre located in central Christchurch.
Nestled on the eastern coast of the South Island, Christchurch boasts a unique charm that stems from its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. With the majestic Southern Alps serving as a backdrop, it offers an array of experiences, from leisurely strolls through the tranquil Botanic Gardens to exhilarating adventures on the Port Hills. We encourage you to explore the artsy alleyways of the Central Business District or savour local delicacies at bustling markets. Whether you are captivated by historical landmarks, enchanted by the inviting warmth of the people, or drawn to the captivating blend of old and new, Christchurch offers an excess of activities to cater to everyone’s interests and desires.
The ASC 2024 theme of “Responsibility of a Surgeon” will see us exploring the critical role that surgeons play in not only the surgical system, but in the broader healthcare community. We will delve into the ethical considerations, decision-making processes, and patient-centred care that define a surgeon’s responsibility. Through enlightening presentations, we aim to illuminate the dimensions and depths of this pivotal theme. Together, we will explore how this responsibility defines our profession and empowers us to elevate the standards of our surgical practice.
As is tradition at the ASC, you will have many opportunities to forge new connections and rekindle old acquaintances in the exhibition area and during networking functions. On behalf of the organising committee, we warmly welcome you to Ōtautahi Christchurch and we hope that you will join us here to create unforgettable moments and cherished memories in May 2024.
